When we choose to take action on our plastic waste, we create meaningful impact in a world without borders. We fund waste management facilities and empower local communities in geographies without the necessary infrastructure to remove, recover, and recycle plastic waste that would have otherwise remained in the environment for centuries.
PROJECT IMPACT AT A GLANCE.
Chennai is one of India's biggest cities - the metropolitan area is home to 11 million people. Without formal waste management in much of the city, plastic pollution is taking over: overflowing landfills and ocean-bound plastic waste are rampant, and plastic now covers the famous Marina Beach - the world’s second longest urban beach.
rePurpose Global's coalition fully financed a material recovery facility (MRF) in Chennai - from conveyor belts to baling machines, safety equipment and furniture - and our expert team helped to design it. By increasing the infrastructure capacity for treatment of low value plastic waste and incentivizing the collection, project Neela Sapana is tackling plastic pollution head on. rePurpose Global is working to bring holistic plastic waste management to 500,000 households in Chennai and the surrounding urban areas over the next 10 years.

STEP 1: SUSTAINABLE SOURCING
Our co-packer and manufacturer have operational procedures in place to manage or treat solid and water waste, including hazardous and non-hazardous waste. The site holds a certificate from ‘Maharashtra Pollution Control Board’. We have also sponsored over 500k free school meals in India.
STEP 2: THE PLASTIC NEUTRAL SHIFT
Building on rePurpose Global’s belief that businesses can positively impact the environment and society, Holy Cow has gone Plastic Neutral. Through this partnership, we are taking the first step to systemic environmental change — financing waste management infrastructure and empowering marginalized workers fighting the plastic waste crisis on the frontline.
